The Rotaract District 3140, Mumbai has initiated Granthalaya - An Initiative to set up a Learning Resource Centre comprising of a Library and a Reading / Study space at schools that do not have access to such resources. The first learning resource centre was set up at St. Mathew's High School, Malad as a part of this project. The project will be further taken to the other schools in the city. The idea behind Project Granthalaya is not to only enhance the 'bookish' knowledge of a student, but to provide an environment in which they can excel in whatever they want irrespective of the limitations of their curriculum. Rotaract District 3140 aims to use the environment to encourage talks, workshops and interactive sessions that will give a wider scope to what they take in on a daily basis. Earlier, Rotaractors from across the city had collected more than 2500 books and around 300 toys, kindheartedly donated by Mumbaikars for Project Granthalaya.” With a vision and motto of 'Sending India to School', Project Granthalaya is an endeavour to take ahead the efforts of changing the lives of the kids who do not have the privilege of quality education. The things that are made available for students are Story Books, Encyclopedia, Grammar Books, Mathematics & Educational Books, General Knowledge Books, Fiction Books, Toys and Games. The library room is also repaired, decorated and furniture is placed in order to make it appealing for the students. All in all, it is our attempt to make the learning centre a house of knowledge for the young students of India.
