If Rotary is the butterfly and Rotaract is the pupa….then what is Interact?
Yes, you got it right!! Interact is the caterpillar which is Rotary International’s service club for young people aged between 14 to 18 years of age. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but apart from that they are self-governing and self-supporting.
It is said that ‘Variety is the spice of life.’ This proverb is perfectly apt as far as the club membership for Interact goes. Clubs can be big or small, with members of either the same gender or mixed, belonging to the same school or from different schools in the same community.
Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which fosters international understanding and goodwill. Through these projects, Interactors become world citizens in the true sense of the term and develop a network of friendships with local and overseas clubs.
Interactors get the opportunity to learn the importance of:
Developing leadership skills and personal integrity
Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others
Understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work
Advancing international understanding and goodwill
Over the years Interact has flourished with more than 10,700 clubs in 109 countries and geographical areas and still counting! With almost 2,00,000 young people involved in Interact, it has come to be one of the most significant and rapidly growing programmes of Rotary service.
